This week we worked on the school song and the fight song for the pep rally, which was on Thursday. We played Riders on the storm we also played the fight song and the cheerleaders danced to the song. The football, volleyball and cross country team all ran out in their own banners. The cheerleaders picked 3 people out of each grade level and they did a relay race, then each grade level had a cheer off.

During Class we are starting to learn how to play Riders on the Storm, this song is by Michael story. Some of the warm ups that we play are long tone 1A, scales, the chromatic scale. This class is really fun, we actually have good music that we play. We look up to Mrs. Robles like our band mom!

September 14, 2015

This past week 7th & 8th grade students learned how to play the school song and fight song.  JH percussion have been working on cadences.  We've also begun work on All-Region Music.

The beginner bands are in full effect.  Last week students learned how to put their instruments together and this week they will learn how to make the proper sounds!!!

Music is definitely in the air.

7th & 8th Grade Band

The school year is off to a great start.  Yesterday, the Junior High Kids played through the Lytle Alma Mater.  Sectionals have also begun and students are starting their All-Region Music.

This will be my last post because next week my student bloggers will begin blogging about all the cool stuff we are doing in class.

Beginner Band sign up has already begun.  If your 4th grade child has not received a note for sign up, you can contact me at mrobles@lytleisd.com.  My school phone is 830-709-5115 ext. 4311.

Here are some phone numbers to music companies if you will be purchasing or leasing an instrument:

Flutes, Clarinets, Alto Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones and Percussion/Bell Kits can be leased from High School Music Company.  The store telephone number is 210/349-2775.  Rates and terms can be discussed with them at your convenience.  Representatives from High School Music have agreed to come to Lytle for an “instrument drive” after school on Tuesday, September 8th.  At that time, you and your child will have an opportunity to see the different instruments, ask questions you might have of the representatives, and if possible, obtain an instrument for your child.

The same instruments are also available from Hillje Music, another good music store with three locations in San Antonio at 3703 Colony Drive (near IH-10 and Wurzbach) – store phone number is 210/696-0039, at 11654 Bandera Rd., Suite 109 – store phone number is 210/680-0181, and at 18130 Highway 281 North – Suite 116 – store phone number is 210/545-3131.

Virtually any of these instruments can also be leased from Taylor Music.  Although the monthly lease rates are lower for this company, they are located in South Dakota, so corresponding with them might be a little more difficult than with High School Music Company or Hillje Music.  The company website is 1800usaband.com.  Look for the link for beginner band instruments.
Please contact me before ordering an instrument for your child so I can keep track of how many students are getting each type of instrument.  This is necessary to keep all the sections in the band at the appropriate size.

Thank you for encouraging your child’s involvement in music!  If you would like to discuss matters with me over the summer, please feel free to call one of the phone numbers listed below.
                                                                                                                Musically yours,
                                                                                                                MJ Robles
                                                                                                                Junior High Band Director

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email.

Veteran's Day

On November 11 the Junior High Band, along with the 6th grade band, will be playing the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful for the Veteran's Day Program.  This will be the first time all of the Junior High bands will be performing together.

I will post what time and where students will need to arrive closer to the event as I get more information.

7th and 8th grade students will wear their band shirts with blue jeans.

6th graders will wear either their band shirt (if they ordered one) or the black Inspire shirts they received from the school.
